God's Commands

Session 4.11 for March 11, 2012

In Exodus 20:1-17, God gives the Israelite people the Ten Commandments.  Most of us are familiar with these commandments.  We can read about Jesus summing up these commandments in the New Testament with “The greatest commandment is to love God and the second greatest is to love your neighbor as yourself.”  These commandments were not given to be used by a judge in a court.  Rather, they were given to give an identity and structure to the Israelites in a way that separated them from other people groups and showed that they were living to God’s standard rather than humanity’s standard.  In today’s world, these commandments still influence our identity as Christians.
